The Buddy System
Lex Hedgehog wants an adventure to the blackberry bushes, but Spencer Field Mouse feels wiggly near the edge. With the Buddy System 3, they learn to stay where buddies can see, call “Buddy!” and stop, and return to a trusted grown-up if needed.
Lex Hedgehog wants an adventure to the blackberry bushes, but Spencer Field Mouse’s body gets wiggly near the edge of Hawkins Hollow. The berries look exciting, but the path feels big, prickly, and uncertain too. With a simple three-step Buddy System, the two friends learn how to stay where buddies can see, stop when they hear “Buddy!”, and go to a trusted grown-up if they need help. Little by little, the edge feels smaller because the friends stay together and move at buddy-speed. This warm Hawkins Hollow read-aloud supports children as they explore safety planning, anxiety support, waiting, teamwork, pacing, and the confidence that comes from not facing something alone.
