Spencer's Sound Trail
Spencer Field Mouse and Callen Crow follow a gentle trail through Hawkins Hollow, stopping at a stick, leaf, rock, and flower to hear the first sound in each word. With patient practice, Spencer discovers that reading feels close enough to try.
Spencer’s Sound Trail is a warm Hawkins Hollow First Reader about beginning sounds, careful listening, and early reading confidence. On a clear, breezy North Texas morning, Spencer Field Mouse and Callen Crow follow a simple trail through Hawkins Hollow, stopping at child-friendly clues along the way. Each clue helps Spencer slow down, listen closely, and hear the first sound in a familiar word. With kind support and repeated success, reading begins to feel close enough to try. This early reader fits families, classrooms, and read-aloud practice looking for a gentle animal-character story about letter sounds, confidence, and first-grade readiness without turning the book into a worksheet or classroom drill.
