Carlisle creek—tap, tap, see;
One paper star waited quietly.
Haylee asked, “May I move it now?”
Emmitt answered, “Not yet, please.”
Barn lane—pause, hands stay still;
Haylee waited by the trail.
Emmitt said, “I’m ready now.”
Haylee moved the star one space.
Quiet bench—what shall we choose?
Say “All done,” or rest our shoes—
Or whisper silly, “Star-heart-hop!”
Then let the pretend move stop.
Heartbeat stars in make-believe play
Bounced tiny rhythms through the gray.
