Hawkins Hollow Nursery Rhymes
The Magnetic Rhyme Window Makes One New Rule
The magnetic rhyme window will not reveal its remembered orchard image when one person leads every round. The dominant anchor is a relay in which the starting role rotates. The apparently inconvenient trip to Reed-Dock Inlet supplies the missing condition—one damp reed touch—and becomes more important than producing a finished picture.
Rhyme
Four blank squares clung to a frame;
Its magnets waited, but no one could name
Which hand should start. No hand took lead.
Lex passed the window on with speed.
Aleea bounced it once to Haylee.
Haylee slid it gently to Zylar.
Zylar turned it back to Lex;
The starts kept changing—who came next?
One square showed bark, one hinted wheel;
One held a handle made of steel.
The fourth stayed pale through every pass.
“We have three clues, but not the last.”
They swapped the start: Haylee, then Lex;
Aleea followed; Zylar came next.
No captain called, no pointer chose;
Each new beginning changed what showed.
Aleea watched the quiet square.
She left its waiting magnet there.
Then pointed once toward Reed-Dock Inlet;
The missing clue was something wet.
The relay bent into a detour game:
New starter, new hand, never the same.
At Reed-Dock Inlet, one reed brushed
The window edge; the magnets hushed.
They carried no basket, pressed no fruit.
They made no cider on the route.
Back at Rain-Chain Corner, all four knew
The Cobb Orchard Press from the clues in view.
Bark, wheel, handle, reed-wet trace—
Four efforts held one remembered place.
The picture never filled the frame;
The relay, not the picture, became the game.
Lex set the window down at last.
Haylee touched her palm, then passed.
Aleea and Zylar made the same sign too:
Open hand toward the work they knew.
