Where the Bell Chose to Wait

The bell had already gone when the morning began.
Spencer said, “I sent it straight, just as we planned.”
Haylee said, “I heard one bump past the corner’s low rail.”
Alice asked, “What changed on the bell’s little trail?”

Inside windmill path, all four held their place;
Only the woven bell had gone on the chase.
Slow: Ring with one finger; watch where sound may fall.
Fast: Wiggle, tap, pause—then listen to all.

Ring, wiggle, tap, pause— four sounds, soft and clear.
They walked to garden bell corner and gathered near.
Spencer stood bridge-side; Haylee checked the grass.
Aydin watched the dew; Alice let each answer pass.

Ring, wiggle, tap— three sounds in the round.
No bell at the post, but a faint woven sound.
Slow: Alice bent near, leaving space for the clue.
Fast: Haylee pointed—not where they meant, but where it flew.

Ring, wiggle— two sounds. Aydin found below
The bell beside three flat market trays in a row.
“It landed by the narrow wet seam,” Aydin said.
“That is where we meet now—not the place in our head.”

Ring— one sound. Spencer asked, “May we cross?”
Alice checked the trays and the dew-dark moss.
Haylee chose the order; Aydin set each tray:
Slow one, quick two, steady three—a bridge for today.

They crossed one at a time to the bell’s chosen ground.
Before they cheered the sending, they checked who came round.
No sounds remained; four friends met beside the bell,
Where its small change of landing had something to tell.

Then Aydin lifted tray three; Haylee carried tray two;
Spencer set tray one where it waited before.
Alice saw the wet seam, with no bridge anymore—
The bell marked their new meeting place on the shore.
