The Choice That Stayed Open

Two sides reached weather-vane deck after rain;
Aydin came with Zylar; Emmitt crossed the other lane.
At Dahl seed room, the magnetic ring held four squares:
Three showed choices; one blank waited there.

Loud solo: Aydin tapped the bell tip—ping.
Zylar answered with one slow shoulder swing.
Quiet reply: “Not the same, but part of the play.”
The first magnet held one blue choice in place.

Firm solo: Emmitt tapped the wooden tab—tok.
Aydin answered with both palms open, then stopped.
The second magnet held one gold choice near;
The fourth blank square stayed open and clear.

Before creek pebble shelf, three pictures seemed complete.
Zylar pointed to the blank: “One answer may change.”
They reversed toward the seed room, slow rather than fast;
The visible pattern hid an exception in the last.

Smallest solo: a seed shell slipped from the ring—tik.
Emmitt answered with a still finger-circle, neat and quick.
No one copied the sound; each gesture led instead.
The tiny beat became the closing image.

They set the board flat: blue, gold, open, blank.
Aydin held the first card; Emmitt held the second rank.
Zylar left one square empty with an open hand nearby:
“Changed mind goes here”—no need to say why.

The ring rested silent. The last sound stayed small.
Three unlike strengths had made room for them all.
The choice board held no winner, no locked-in sign—
One open square waited for a different mind.
