Lillian and Zylar were considered as available, but adding a fifth participant would prevent two exact speed-paired movements.

The Click After the Wide Turn
A word sat backward in the telescope glass;
Above acorn table, four separate paths passed.
Lex, Aleea, Haylee, and Emmitt chose ways below;
No group line hurried where each friend could go.
At firefly switchback, the telescope read:
“Quick pair—pause; slow pair—____.”
Lex and Aleea moved lightly and fast;
Haylee and Emmitt came slower at last.
The quick pair waited; the blank stayed free.
“Arrive?” asked Lex. Aleea nodded gently.
But a wet narrow turn made the next route bend;
The telescope reversed the words from end to end.
Slow pair—lead; quick pair—wait.
They chose a wide detour instead of the straight.
Haylee and Emmitt set the careful pace;
Lex and Aleea matched it with plenty of space.
The expected stage stayed beyond the telescope view;
The detour itself became the work they would do.
Wide turn—pause; slow step—near;
Quick feet wait till both pairs are clear.
They traded speeds for the route to windmill path:
Lex and Aleea took slow turns after that.
Haylee and Emmitt moved quickly, then paused;
No footprints or finished path remained when they crossed.
At windmill path, the telescope rested still.
The missing rhyme waited by one wooden latch.
Quick pair—pause; slow pair—arrive; wide turn—
The loose latch settled with a click.
No reprise followed and no route stayed drawn.
The ordinary click completed what their effort had done.
Different speeds, one detour, one open final sound—
The work mattered even with no product left around.
