The Fold That Said Begin

The whispering kite moved hand to hand at quiet-bench grove.

Open, then closed—move, then wait.
Through the kite window, firefly switchback appeared,
a framed view only; every friend stayed in the grove.

Emmitt began third and folded one kite corner inward.
The picture clue could mean “fold to finish”
or “fold to begin the other side.”
He chose finish, and the whisper shadow went crooked.

The crooked shadow looked like a bent little word.
No one blamed Emmitt for choosing one fair meaning.
Aydin began the fourth round by opening the fold:
Wrong fold, right clue—open means begin.

High met low; open met closed.
Two shadow halves joined on the bench back.
The readable message said MEND.
The mistake had become the opening cue.

They remembered one blue-thread repair from chalk courtyard.
That place stayed a memory, not another stop.
Lex held the kite steady; Haylee aligned the torn fold.
Emmitt passed the thread; Aydin tied one visible loop.

The leaderless relay ended where it began.
The kite rested open with its blue-thread mend.
No hand claimed the whole repair,
and the joined shadow still read MEND.
