The Way We Could All Take

Maple hollow held the whole beginning:
rose light, wet leaves, and a puzzle window spinning.
Through woven reeds shone weather-vane deck.
Alice said, “First, let a tiny choice check.”

Callen set two pebble paths on a dry wooden tray:
one straight and narrow, one curving away.
Kaydence pointed gently, “Let’s test the curve wide.”
Bentley watched the yellow thread move side to side.

They tipped one little bead down the narrow lane.
It reached the deck-window, then wedged in the grain.
They tried Kaydence’s curve; the bead rolled together
with three softer markers through sprinkle-wet weather.

So Callen carried the puzzle, never the whole scene.
Alice watched each turning place where the threads leaned.
They followed the wider clue through moonflower wall,
with Bentley fully supported, included in all.

But the path ended somewhere else—not the expected deck.
Alice paused. “Was reaching it really what we meant to check?”
Kaydence tapped the wide curve; Callen folded one wing.
The wrong destination had revealed the real thing.

“Kaydence changed our plan,” Alice said, clear and true.
Callen nodded once: “The wider test came from you.”
The puzzle rested open; no one hurried it shut.
Bentley’s small hand loosened into a soft, open rest.

Alice opened one palm. Callen opened one wing.
Kaydence opened both hands beside the woven ring.
Bentley’s relaxed hand answered, tiny and light—
four open shapes, and everyone understood.
