Four Shadows Make Room

One damp corner of the moon dial caught the dusk.
Brandon lifted it first at apple-crate stage.
Ping! went his one-beat solo.
Callen answered with two fingers held low.

Brandon said, “I remember a tall barn-pulley shadow.”
Callen said, “I remember that shadow lying low.”
Both memories fit the folding dial,
though neither showed the whole shape alone.

Callen took the dial. Tok! went his beat.
Haylee answered with one slow shoulder turn.
The little window showed a make-believe barn loft pulley,
then folded shut before it became a stop.

Haylee took the dial. Hum! went her beat.
Lillian answered by opening both palms.
She bent one hinge to match Brandon’s tall memory,
and another to match Callen’s low one.

Lillian took the dial. Tik! went her beat.
Brandon answered with one barefoot step back.
Dot—line—curve—open.
The four shapes crossed the crate boards in lavender light.

At first the shadow looked like loose pieces.
Haylee turned the fold toward the remembered sunflower fence angle.
The tall and low shadows met without replacing each other.
Across the stage floor, their joined shadow read ROOM.

“Both memories helped,” Lillian said.
Callen placed one low cushion beside the outer crate.
Haylee set one short screen behind it.
Brandon left one clear path open from the gathering.

The moon dial rested folded beside the tiny nook.
The nook stayed optional, close, and easy to enter.
No one had to leave the apple-crate stage.
There was simply a little more room to belong.
