The Stamp That Left No Print

Sunlit ribbons crossed the clover leaves
as three friends came from opposite ways.
Spencer and Aydin reached one side;
Brandon came barefoot from the other.

At riverside sandbar, one water-marked stamp
waited beside two miniature routes.
“First job: print,” said Spencer,
and pressed one damp circle into sand.

“Second job: check,” said Brandon.
He touched the short route’s edge.
The sand slumped under the lightest press;
the expected stage-way would not hold.

“Third job: weigh,” said Aydin.
The stamp balanced the wider curve.
The broad bend stayed level and clear,
so three fingers pointed there.

Print, check, weigh—then test once more.
They swapped the stamp from hand to hand.
No picture needed to be saved;
the tiny test had answered the path.

Before clover gate, they reversed.
“Fourth job: mark,” said Brandon.
He set the stamp beside the safer turn,
not on a sign and not as a lasting trail.

They followed the bend past the expected stage-way.
The path ended somewhere else:
at a low willow listening patch
where damp seed shells rested under leaves.

“Fifth job: listen,” whispered Aydin.
Spencer set the stamp flat and still.
One seed shell tipped against its wooden edge—
tik.

The smallest sound became the closing picture.
Then Spencer lifted the stamp away.
The sand print softened; the turn mark vanished.
Their work had mattered without leaving a thing.
