Lex remembered the reed-side opening.
Haylee remembered the branch-side bend.

Because the reed hummed, Lex checked the air.

Because the pebble clicked, Emmitt checked the ground.
Zylar watched all three clues together.
The direct route met one low fallen branch.
The branch was not moved or broken.
Emmitt held the kite below its lowest point
and marked the clear height with the wet line.
Because the obstacle gave a measure,
the safe route became visible.
Lex kept the kite under the mark;
Haylee guided the wider turn.
They left maple hollow by the changed route
and returned to little-library step.
