Hold the Kite, Show the Garden

Riverside sandbar made one shining ring
beneath four careful feet.
Austin, Alice, Callen, Haylee circled once,
then paired for willow root gallery.

Austin crossed with Haylee.
Alice crossed with Callen.
At changed chalk courtyard, one patchwork kite
lifted a question in its shadow.

High made the patchwork colors bright.
Low kept the tail from the sprout.
“Which way?” asked four finger-shadows.
“Strong shadow—or safe space?”

Austin said, “Hold it high for a clearer shape.”
Alice said, “Keep it low by the seedling.”
Both ideas protected something important:
the clue and the small green life.

Haylee raised the youngest hand.
“Hold.”
The kite stopped before its tail brushed the leaves.
The question waited in gold light.

The disagreement became two matching parts.
Austin held the kite low and steady.
Alice turned the pierced tail panel toward the sun.
Callen watched the joined shadow settle.

High or low? Hold, then show.
The shadow pointed to three chalk shapes:
one leaf, one curved stem, two small buds—
pale until water found them.

Haylee poured on the leaf section first.
Austin watered the curved stem second.
Alice watered the two buds third.
Callen kept the kite shadow aligned.

Dark chalk joined across the courtyard:
leaf, stem, buds—one garden pattern.
The seedling stayed free beside the low kite;
the big picture grew without covering the small one.
