The Basket Left One Place
Two entrances curved toward pumpkin corner
under cool blue twilight.
Lex came from one side with a quick step;
Alice came from the other, light and quiet.
At weather-vane deck, one clockwork basket
clicked three words out of order:
Choose—listen—meet.
The friends repeated the backward border.
Lex said “Choose.”
Alice answered “Listen.”
Aydin said, “Meet comes first
if every voice is meant to enter.”
So they built the refrain in reverse:
Meet—listen—choose.
The basket turned, but one place stayed silent;
Zylar had not been given a turn.
Zylar raised one open hand.
No one filled the quiet place.
The chant became meet—listen—choose—pause,
with room for another pace.
Before berry landing, they reversed.
Lex held the basket low.
Alice listened for the soft gear click.
Aydin marked where the turn should go.
Four dew-bright leaves faced the deck:
one near, one far, two in between.
The little audience answered without words,
each leaf holding a different sheen.
The final verse became a choice board:
Now, Later, and one blank place.
Zylar kept the blank space open
for any mind that changed its pace.
No choice was pressed into the board.
No leaf was asked to agree.
The quiet fourth place stayed part of the chant,
available when someone was ready.
