The Lantern Question
Little-library step stayed hidden
while frog pond rim held dusk.
The reversible moon dial turned
with a soft wet hush.
“Low side?” called Lex.
“Bright side?” Brandon said.
“Center?” Austin asked the dial.
Haylee counted instead.
Five clues, four answers, three pieces,
two sides, one place.
The dial reversed its shining face
and pointed toward the wrong space.
They reached where the bright arrow ended,
but no useful shape was there.
“Is the question where the dial points,”
Haylee asked, “or what we can make and share?”
She found three flat pieces in the kit:
one square, one roof-shape, one glow-dot.
Lex placed the square at berry landing.
Brandon set the roof on top.
Austin centered the small round piece.
No flame, no lantern light.
Only a flat lantern image
assembled in lavender night.
“Haylee changed the question,” Lex said.
Brandon and Austin named her too.
The route returned to berry landing
because her idea showed what to do.
Five clues became four answers,
four answers became three parts,
three parts became one lantern picture—
and the credit found its start.
