The Open-Space Listener
Two paths bent toward clover gate,
one from the left, one from the right.
Austin came steady from one side;
Emmitt came with a quicker stride.
At quilt lawn, the mirror-backed quilt
showed four squares in silver light.

the bounce began just right.
“Mirror Caller?” Austin offered.
Lillian shook her head.
“I do not want to call the turns.
I can listen for what is left instead.”
