The Question Under the Bell
Maple hollow stayed out of sight
while rain-chain corner shone.
The magnetic bell found three small sounds,
each from a different tone.
Lex brushed one hollow reed:
hum.
Austin tapped one wooden rail:
tok.
Emmitt clicked one creek-side pebble:
tik.
The bell caught bright on a metal point
and tugged the group aside.
They followed where the magnet held,
but no garden clue was there.
“Is the question where the bell can stick,”
Aleea asked, “or where water can show
a pattern without touching the seedling
beside the chalk-row?”
The wrong destination had answered “metal.”
The real question asked for care.
Austin checked the wider route.
Lex carried the plain watering cup there.
At chalk courtyard, Emmitt pointed
to two hidden round marks.
Aleea guided one gentle pour
across the prepared chalk arcs.
Water darkened leaf, stem, wing,
then two small dots beside.
One tiny seedling stayed beyond the pour,
safe on the drier side.
“Aleea changed the plan,” said Lex.
Austin and Emmitt named her too.
The three sounds had opened the question;
her watering idea showed the pattern.
