Two Memory Tempos

Brandon, quick: I remember the near turn in three light beats.

Callen, slow: I remember the wide turn in five patient beats.

Aralynn: Both memories may be true.

Near-side part: Quick, quick, turn.

Wide-side part: Step ... look ... leave room ... turn.

The Obvious Tool

The picture window shows an apple-crate stage ahead.

Brandon: The window tells us where to look.

Callen: It does not tell us whether the route leaves room.

The obvious tool solves the viewing problem,
but not the access problem.

Silent Vote

Brandon points to the near color.

Callen points to the wide color.

Aralynn points to the open space beside the key.

The three points become one vote:
test the wide turn and keep both memories.

Tempo-Changing Work Song

Brandon carries the sounding end at a quick walking pulse.

Callen checks the wide edge at a slower pulse.

Aralynn holds the window open so both can see.

All: Near remembers.
Wide remembers.
Change the tempo,
not the truth.

Chorus Becomes Directions

Before the expected stage, the clear route bends away.

The memory chorus does not return.

All: Look at the ground.
Measure the space.
Leave room around.
Turn at a careful pace.

Different Ending

The window still shows apple-crate stage,
but the usable path ends somewhere else.

At a plain seed-sorting shelf, Brandon sets the key beside the route.

Callen checks one full key-width of clear ground.

Aralynn keeps the open side visible.

Brandon: My near memory showed the first turn.
